Member Support Campaign |
Dear NJLECOA Member,
As you may know, one of our members, Major Ryan Valentin, has been faced with some legal challenges steaming from an on the job incident. While we are in support of Major Valentin, as a smaller union, we are unable to absorb the cost of his legal defense. We are passing along, below, a link to a Go Fund Me campaign that has been started to help cover his legal expenses.

We also now serve as the duly certified and exclusive majority representative for Chiefs in the State’s classified career service.
Our organization proudly represents the top Commanding Officers for the State of NJ. Our members include: Correctional Police Majors NJ Department of Corrections, Captains Juvenile Justice Commission, Supervising Parole Officers NJ Parole, Supervising Conservation Officers Department of Environmental Protection, Chief and Asst Chief Investigator Juvenile Justice Commission, and Deputy Chief Investigators NJ Department of Corrections
On behalf of our statewide membership, we negotiate terms and conditions of employment. Our responsibilities to our membership include: negotiate collective bargaining agreements with the State of New Jersey, represent our members in administrative proceedings, and contract arbitration and grievance litigation. We advocate for legislation designed to support law enforcement and promote public safety.
The Association was founded in 1989, when the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC) certified our status, pursuant to law, as the exclusive majority representative. We were then known as the New Jersey Superior Officers Law Enforcement Association—Captains Unit (NJSOA-CU). On March 20, 2008, PERC issued an official ruling changing the name of the Association to the New Jersey Law Enforcement Commanding Officers Association.
